Is TV becoming a downscale medium?

New research data shows that individuals with a high school education or less spend significantly more time with TV than any medium. They watch a whopping 7.4 hours a day. And households with annual incomes below $30,000 watch 8 hours a day. On the other hand, high income households watch 3.75 hours of television daily. (McCurdy, 2009)

That’s still a pretty broad window, but it does suggest a need to be selective if you are trying to reach an upscale audience using television.

I think that tv its still a great way if not the best to advertise something, but nevertheless now we now that the people who spend more time watching tv are the ones with lower income it would be great to know exactly the time that these people see the tv, and the time that the higher income household do, so we can direct the product to them and start using more of the other advertising media to reach other segmentation.

I honestly don't think I watch an HOUR of TV everyday, I get bored so fast.. and if I watch it is because I have previously recorded a show that I like or maybe a movie on demand. When I'm watching TV I like the commercials but I think that's because I'm in the industry so I really want and need to see what's out there and what the brands are doing.
But I do think that men watch a lot of TV during the weekends and even at night after work. I suppose mothers watch TV with their kids too at some point during the morning or the evening. I think TV is very effective with men, and maybe to for housewives products or services because they're the ones that really watch the food network, or home depot, or even the shows on real time. The rest of the people tend to record and watch later.
