Can an original song sell Oreos?

Still basking in the afterglow from the success of its Super Bowl power outage tweet, Oreo seems to have gotten its mojo back.  Now they are celebrating with an original song fans can download for free.  Before you get too excited, you should know that while it’s being performed by Adam Young of Owl City it was written by a creative director at The Martin Agency -- Dave Muhlenfeld.  (Lukovitz, 2013)

It’s cute, but once was certainly enough for me.

So, what do you think?  Will you download the “Wonderfilled Anthem?”  More importantly will you buy some Oreos to eat while you listen to it?

I think that the song works well enough on its own for the commercial but I'm less sure that it will gain any sort of traction beyond it. It is so clearly designed to be about the product that it seems strange to listen to it outside of that context. It comes off as somewhat of an unnecessary strategy to me. That said, the commercial did make me want an oreo so it did succeed in that sense.

If you love Oreos this makes you want to run out and get them - they are bigger than double stuffed. Downloading songs from a commercial can be how product association will cleverly work - like the modern day jingle.

Wow, I would never expect such a deep and serious sense in a commercial for cookies... Even the way they present "oreo" is interesting. It's not like only a product for selling, which plays main role and gets all central attention, but oreo is there like an element of the story, and it's very important element. Basically they are saying that "oreo can change your life!", but according to the story about cute guy who might have dumped his girlfriend for a singing girl, I'm not sure if it's positive changes =)
However, I like the idea, song is nice, cartoon is interesting and the key message is very touching.

So now I know how to get a cute guy, even if he has a girlfriend - just to give him oreo! =)
I like it.
