The Cynthia Nixon Effect.

As if one celebrity playing politics isn't enough, Cynthia Nixon has decided to run for governor of New York.

Since she wasn't getting much traction with politically savvy New Yorkers, last week she announced that she was in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

Governor Cuomo who has been dragging his feet on the matter immediately responded by saying that perhaps the ship had sailed since neighboring states are legalizing rapidly.  It reminded me of growing up in PA, a half hour from the New Jersey border when Pennsylvania was a 21 year old state and Jersey was 18.  We would drive across the state line, go to the nearest bar, and drunk drive home.

Clearly it's time to address marijuana on a national level to create some consistency.  And, for me,  the fact that it is preventing heroin deaths is a good enough reason for legalization.
